We only gave you 100 words but you’ve managed to sum up your reasons for saying “Yes” in impressively short but inspiring fashion over the weekend, and the message from Scotland’s women has been particularly positive.
The Yes campaign is backed by people from many different walks of life, but all share the belief that Scotland’s future should be in Scotland’s hands.
So last Thursday we invited people to explain their personal reasons for supporting an independent Scotland in our new website section Why I'm Voting Yes, and over the weekend we received scores of responses.
Not everyone needed the full 100 words to get their message across and many of the most concise and engaging responses came from female Yes supporters.
“I will be voting yes because I want to see Scotland be governed by people who want to see Scotland grow and become one of the great countries in Europe, We have the resources and the Talent to carry this off,” wrote Caroline Butler .
While Laura Mitchell’s explained: “ My reason for voting yes is simple. More than anything I believe in democracy, and the UK ‘brand’ of democracy is completely dysfunctional. An independent Scotland gives us the opportunity to create a better democracy, benefitting everyone who lives in Scotland, with decisions affecting Scotland being made by the Scottish people. The referendum is about providing endless opportunities and shaping Scotland’s future… the future that her citizens want.”
And Fay Sinclair, summed up the reasons so many of Scotland’s parents support independence, when she wrote: “I’ll be voting Yes because I want my son to grow up in a Scotland free from WMDs, where free education and health care are protected and he can be proud to tell the world he’s an independent Scot.”
